Bhutan

Bhutan - Places

Bhutan TrekkingWhosoever visits the splendid Kingdom of Bhutan would love to go for trekking and Travel and Tourism Bhutan ensures that you do. It is said that trekking in Bhutan is different from anyplace else in the Himalayas. Out here, the walks are long and strenuous but they are complimented by crystal air, forlorn paths and views that flout description. The trails here lead one through alpine meadows, rhododendron forests, around the foothills of the snow peaked Himalayas, emerald green valleys and crystal lakes. While trekking in this beautiful country one gets the golden opportunity of see an extensive range of flora and fauna. The most astonishing fact is that while trekking in Bhutan one can travel for days without so much as seeing another person. During your trek you will be convoyed by a Bhutan tourism guide, a cook, porters and luggage animals. In this high altitude trekking, that is almost above 9,000 ft (3,000 m) - 18,000 ft (6,000 m), it is wise to ensure the safety and comfort of the trekkers. Bhutan tourism travel agents, therefore, advise trekkers to carry more than a day pack.

The main reason behind this is altitude sickness. Altitude sickness is a severe problem for trekkers in Bhutan and is not suggested for people who are not properly acclimatized or for those who suffer from high altitude sickness. Apart from that trekking permits are also required since the treks vary from short 3 day walks over relative low altitudes to over 3 week long trek that takes one through some of the highest passes in the kingdom. Each day in trekking is divided into fixed numbers of hours. A trekking day in Bhutan generally consists of five to seven hours of walking. And during that trekking, pack animals, ponies, and yaks for the higher altitude treks, are provided to porter provisions, baggage and equipment. Apart from that all the necessary camping and kitchen equipment is provided and included in the Bhutan trek cost.

Bhutan TrekkingSeeing the sudden demand in trekking in Bhutan and also measuring the risk involved, Travel and Tourism Bhutan ensures that Trek parties are escorted by a skilled guide, a cook, an assistant and pack animal. In all, one riding pony is always taken along just as a precautionary measure. Apart from that, the support crew walks ahead of the trekking party each day and pitches camp before the trekkers arrive. This makes sure that the way is safe and clean and when they reach there, they are welcomed with a warm cup of tea or coffee waiting in the dining tent. All the meals here are carefully planned and prepared and are also ensured that they are healthy too. Here Breakfast and dinner are served which is freshly prepared at camp and includes a choice of, at least, four dishes. During the day, a picnic lunch is served at a pleasant and scenic place. Moreover, all the cooking and cleaning chores are taken care of by the trek staff so that you can enjoy the trek fully.

Before trekking, Bhutan tourism agents alert the trekker that trekking is a physically demanding activity and if you are in good physical health, you will enjoy the trek a lot more. Thus, if you are visiting this beautiful scenic place, then don't ever miss the opportunity to trek and savor the feel of this lovely country. Please contact your Travel and Tourism Bhutan agent if you are adventurous and raring to go.

Nepal Places

Nepal - Nepal Places

Nepal - Religion & Culture Culture is the main highlight of Nepal as it is very interesting and equally supported by a glorious history and Nepal Tourism provides you with everything you need to know about the culture and religion of this beautiful country. Delving into Nepali culture it is largely influenced by the cultures of Tibet, which borders to the north, and India, which borders to the south. This similarity is evidential from the fact that there are many similarities in clothing, language and food. Talking about a typical Nepali meal is dal-bhat - boiled lentils served with rice and vegetables, and some spicy relish. This tasty dish is consumed twice daily, once in the morning and again after sunset. And in between the meals there are various tasty snacks such as chiura (beaten rice) and tea. In the mountain region meat, eggs, and fish are eaten. Being the hilly region herein the diet tends to be richer in protein. Furthermore, Millet-based alcoholic drinks are popular, including chhaang and the distilled rakshi. If you travel and tour Nepal, never forget to have finger licking Nepali meal.

Nepal - Religion & Culture Getting deeper into traditional Nepali folklore, it retains a strong sway in society and its stories are extensively acted out in dance and music. The most famous here are the Newar people who are well acknowledged for their masked dance that tell stories of the gods and heroes. Talking about their music, it is percussion-based and sometimes with flutes or shawm accompanying the intense, nasal vocal lines. Herein the musical styles carry various varieties such as pop, religious and folk music, among other styles. The music genres from Tibet and India have also had a strong control on traditional Nepali music. The most surprising fact is that herein women even of the musician castes, are less likely than men to play music, apart from in precise situations, such as traditional all-female wedding parties.

Music is closely blended in the culture of Nepal and so too the musical instruments. The sarangi, a four-stringed, hand-carved instrument is generally played by peripatetic minstrels. Moreover, since the sixties, Nepali rock or rock music, sung to Nepali lyrics, is now fashionable among youth. Now you even get to hear Nepali rap and Nepali reggae, which has blossomed with the dawn of the music video industry. This rock and pop music has given birth to various heavy metal bands. Nepal Tourism gives you a feel of the various kinds of music played here too. Sports also play an important role in the culture of Nepal and Football is the most popular sport, followed by cricket and kabaddi. The Martyrs Memorial Football League is the national football championship. Development has been on the slow rate in Nepal this was evident from the fact that television was introduced in the 1980s. Soon this spread like a fire and currently there are four television broadcasting channels: Nepal Television - the national television channel; NTV 2 Metro - a city channel owned by the government; and two private channels - Kantipur Television and Image Channel.

Apart from that there is an array of other networks, particularly those that originate in India, which are available with the installation of increasingly popular satellite dishes, although lack of electrification makes this difficult. However, radio is listened to all through the kingdom and is still the most popular form of entertainment in Nepal; as of the year 2000, there were 12 radio stations. Come visit our Nepal tourism agent and learn more about this fantastic country.

Srilanka Places

Sri Lanka - Places

Sri Lanka - Nature Like its history and culture nature also plays an important role in Sri Lanka’s tourism. Sited across the sea this marvelous island boasts the pleasant climate and is also rich in flora and fauna. Delving into nature of Sri Lanka it primarily and directly depends on the availability of rainwater. The high mountains of Sri Lanka and the southwestern part of the country are known as the wet zone. These are the areas that receive ample rainfall averaging almost 250 centimeters. The most surprising feature is that majority of the southeast, east, and northern parts of the country comprise the dry zone. This dry zone receives annual rainfall between 1200 and 1900 mm. and much of the rain in these areas falls from October to January; during the rest of the year there is very little precipitation. This is the reason why all living creatures must conserve precious moisture. In all, this splendid island has three biosphere reserves, Hurulu, Sinharaja, and the Kanneliya-Dediyagala-Nakiyadeniya

Talking about its nature Sri Lanka’s arid northwest and southeast coasts receive the least amount of rain. That is almost 600 to 1200 mm per year and this scanty rainfall is mainly concentrated within the short period of the winter monsoon. The main highlight of Sri Lanka’s nature is that herein you can find varieties of flowering acacias that are well adapted to the arid conditions and flourish on the Jaffna Peninsula. And talking about the trees of the dry-land forests are some valuable species, such as satinwood, ebony, ironwood, and mahogany.

Sri Lanka - Nature Now knowing the wet zone nature of Sri Lanka, herein the dominant vegetation of the lowlands is a tropical evergreen forest, with tall trees, broad foliage, and a dense undergrowth of vines and creepers. This is the prime reason why subtropical evergreen forests resembling those of temperate climates flourish in the higher altitudes. Very few know that there was a time during the Mahaweli Ganga Program of the 1970s and 1980s in northern Sri Lanka, the government set aside four areas of land totaling 1,900 km² as national parks.

There was a time when nature played an important role in Sri Lanka’s tourism as forests were its main highlight. Few years back forests covered nearly the entire island, but by the late 20th century lands classified as forests and forest reserves covered only one-fifth of the land. Seeing this sudden forest erosion Ruhunu National Park in the southeast protects herds of elephant, deer, and peacocks. Same can be mentioned for Wilpattu National Park in the northwest preserves the habitats of many water birds, such as storks, pelicans, ibis, and spoonbills.

Trip to India

The history of India is as colorful and glorious as the country itself. The country has witnessed some of the most deep impacting events in the past and each event has left a mark of its own on the culture, lifestyle, religion, economy, philosophy and every conceivable aspect of the country.
The first conceivable civilization was set up nearly five thousand years back along the Indus River valley. The twin cities of Mohenjodaro and Harappa, which are now in Pakistan were governed by priests and held the fundamentals of Hinduism. They had maintained a sophisticated lifestyle, a highly developed aesthetic sense, town planning skills and the knowledge of a mysterious script language. The Indus civilization was once upon a time extended nearly a million square kilometers across the Indus river valley. It was there at the same time as the ancient civilizations of Egypt and Sumer but far survived them. Surviving for nearly a thousand years the Indus valley civilization was demolished in the tectonic disturbances in about 1700 BC, which caused a series of floods.

The final downfall of the Indus Valley Civilization came with the Aryans around 1500 BC. At the onset of Vedic ages the Aryans came in from the North and spread through large parts of India bringing with them their culture and religious beliefs. This period is significant for the birth of the Vedas.
In 567 B.C. saw the birth of Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism and Mahavira, who founded the Jain Religion. The entire Indian subcontinent is full of caves and monuments devoted to these religions and are big tourist attraction today.

In the 4th century B.C., Emperor Ashoka, one of the greatest King of Indian history, led the Mauryan Empire to take over almost all of what is now modern India. He became an eminent follower of Buddhism and built the group of monuments at Sanchi (a UNESCO world heritage site). The Ashoka pillar located at Sarnath is the national emblem and the Dharma Chakra on the Ashoka Pillar decorates the National Flag.

After the Mauraya’s the Guptas ruled the northern territories of the country whereas the Cholas, the Pandayas and the Cheras grew in the southern territories, where they conducted business deals with Europe and other Asian countries.

Christianity came to India at about the same time from Europe. Legend has it that St. Thomas the missionary came to India in 52 A.D. Even earlier than that people of the Jewish religion arrived on Indian shores.

In approximately the 7th century A.D. a group of Parsees, landed in Gujarat and became a part of the huge mix of religions in India today, each of which adds its important and distinctive flavor.
In the 15th century Guru Nanak laid the base of the Sikh religion in Punjab.
In 1192, Mohammed of Ghori, a ruler from Afghanistan, came to India and conquered several places in the north including Delhi. He went back but left a general from his army here in India who became the first sultan and during this time Islam was introduced in India. The Dehli Sultanate steadily took control of more and more of North India over the next 200 years, till Timur, who was called "Timur the Lame" or "Tamberlane" came from Turkey in 1398. His invasions were barbaric and he stole some of the most valuable possessions and left the Delhi Sultanate weak. Soon the Mughals, who were from Iran, came in and took control of the north. Southern territories were not far from hassles and in 1336, the Hindu Vijayanagar Empire was established. With the passage of time various European powers came and ruled India for varied amount of time. But it was the British who eventually ruled most of India and finally made it one of their colonies. In 1947 India eventually gained independence but for the cost of being divided into two countries. Since its independence India has progressed in each and every field and today it is the largest democracy in the world.
