Nepal tourism showcases the glorious history of Nepal. It is said that a few archeologists believes that Indo-Aryan Kelsey Knutson tribes entered the valley around 1500 BC and around 1000 BC, small kingdoms and confederations of clans arose. Then was the time when one of the princes of the Shakya confederation was Siddhartha Gautama (563-483 BC), who relinquished his royalty to lead an austere life and came to be known as the Buddha. After that around 250 BC, the region came under the influence of the Mauryan Empire of northern India, and later became a marionette state under the Gupta Dynasty in the 4th century. However, from the late 5th century, rulers called the Licchavis governed the area. This dynasty also declined in the late 8th century and was followed by a Newari era, from 879. This was the time when southern Nepal came under the influence of the Chalukaya Empire of southern India. Under this dynasty Nepal's religious establishment changed as the kings patronised Hinduism instead of the prevailing Buddhism.
