India - Madhya pradesh

India - Madhya pradesh

Exquisitely carved temples, proud fortresses and variety of wildlife in short you name it and Madhya Pradesh has it all. Lying at the heart of India, Madhya Pradesh is a state located amongst the high plateau, historically known as the Malwa region. Bhopal being the capital city, Madhya Pradesh is a fascinating amalgam of an old historic city, and modern urban planning. That's why majority of Indian travel agents or Indian travel companies can't afford to miss this vibrant city. Madhya Pradesh too has a historical background and dates back to the time of Ashoka, the great Mauryan ruler, to the Chandelas. But it's the Chandelas, who gets the maximum credit as they built the fantastic monuments of Eros, Khajuraho, in the north of the state. Despite having a historical background, Madhya Pradesh still boasts an urban culture. Apart from that this colourful state also holds a special position in the history of music. And the finest of the examples are the Gwalior gharana, the rivalry of Tansen and Baiju Bawra, which is the most prominent arbiters of style.

Bhopal is the place which kick starts the journey to this beautiful place. Bhopal is one of the oldest and historical cities, which dates back to the 11th century AD, built by the legendary King Bhoja. But after the fall of the Mughal Empire with the death of Aurangzeb in AD 1707, there was a political turmoil. But soon it was overtaken by Britishers. As far as the attractions goes this City of Lakes has two beautiful lakes that are situated in the center of the city. Apart from that there is Bharat Bhavan showcasing Indian art, folk traditions, sculpture and a centre for the performing arts as well. Also there are Bhimbetka and Udaygiri two marvelous excursions from Bhopal, having notable cave sculptures of religious themes.

After exploring Bhopal the next halt is at Gwalior. According to some historians Gwalior has derived its name from a great sage Gwalipa who cured a chief of the Kachwaha clan suffering from leprosy. Moreover, Gwalior's premeditated position amid north and south India made it an important possession and was captured by several ruling houses. This city has been possessed by the Mughals, Jats, Marathas and the British. But finally in 1885, it was handed over to Jiyaji Rao Scindia at a formal durbar. After that it was theirs rule which saw the rising of the heroic queen Rani of Jhansi and Tatya Tope. After having a close encounter with history, the next destination is the fascinating temples of Khajuraho. Khajuraho temples were built between 950 and 1050 A.D. are a unique gift of love to the world. Khajuraho derives its name from the Khajur tree abundantly found in this area.

As far as the history goes in all there were 85 temples but not there are 22. All of the 22 temples are dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and the Jain Tirthankaras. Also the temples are grouped into three geographical divisions: western, eastern and southern. Thus, just wake up and plan a trip to this magnificent state with Travel With Us.
